What is Photogrammetry?
Photogrammetry is the science of acquiring information about an object or area, usually through aerial photography or satellite imagery.

The Photogrammetry Department at Pentree, Inc., is the only privately owned aerial mapping service in the state of West Virginia. Our Cessna 206 airplane fitted with camera and equipment, combined with our talented technicians and software has been invaluable for many of our projects requiring aerial photography, topographic mapping and digital documentation.

Pentree, Inc. produces accurate planimetric mapping from aerial photography, as well as differential volume calculations and contour mapping. By combining stereoscopic photos with CAD and terrain modeling software, computer models may be constructed to determine many topographic calculations at a substantial savings of time and money over manual field measurements and long-hand calculations.
Photogrammetry applications:
- Fill retention capabilities.
- Excavation quantities.
- Spoil volumes.
- Design capacities.
- Drainage areas and patterns in a watershed may be more accurately defined than on available USGS mapping.
- Accurate profiles and cross-sections of surface areas can be produced without going into the field.
- Area measurements for surface tracts consisting of a few acres to thousands of acres can be performed almost instantly.
- Surface features of topography can be examined and traversed without ever setting foot on the site.
- Accurate digital documentation for 2D and 3D viewing, and Autocad editing is also produced.
